Core B - Bioanalytical, Histology, Metabolic Phenotyping, and Imaging Core
The Bioanalytical, Histology, Metabolic Phenotyping, and Imaging Core - Core B
provides state-of-the-art centralized research services, including modern facilities, equipment and technical expertise, not currently available in Mississippi but essential for cutting-edge obesity, cardiorenal and metabolic disease research.
Core B optimizes all assays and core services by consolidating bioanalytical methods and technologies into central facilities in order to perform a larger volume of high-quality measurements at a relatively low cost. Core B provides precise and consistent results using the most up-to-date technology and services needed by COBRE investigators. By providing expertise and major equipment in centralized facilities, Core B provides access to services not feasible for individual labs.
The core also provides support for maintenance of equipment and services, and trains all COBRE investigators in the proper use of equipment located in Core B. Core B faculty and staff will develop new assays as required by the changing needs of the COBRE investigators, improve existing assays, assist with interpretation of results and data, and provide training, technical support and supervision for COBRE investigators, staff and their tools within the core.
Core B has multiple components including:
- Imaging Core is a core facilty in the Department of Physiology and Biophysics that provides state-of-the-art equipment and services that are available to all UMMC researchers, collaborators and other educational and research institutions on a fee-for-service basis.
- Histology Core provides access to state-of-the-art imaging equipment as well as histology, immunohistochemistry, in-situ hybridization and other key services.
- Metabolic Phenotyping Core provides state-of-the-art phenotypical measures to the scientific community at UMMC. Metabolic cages provide accurate measurements of whole metabolic information in rodents.
- Equipment available in Core B includes imaging systems (confocal microscope, Multi Detector-CT Scanner, Micro-CT Scanner, VisualSonics ultrasound system), VEVO 2100 and 3100, Lionheart FX microscope and other major equipment.
